How to tell the time:
- It’s
Ex.: - What time is it?
- It’s two fifty (2:50)
- At → Às (horário)
Ex.: I go to sleep at 10:00 pm
- O’clock → Hora exata/em ponto
Ex.: I go to work at 8 o’clock
I have breakfast at 7 o’clock
- Past → Tempo que passou depois da hora exata (até meia hora)
Ex.: I go home at 20 past 6:00 (6:20)
5:30 → Thirty past five
- To → Tempo que falta até a hora exata (depois de meia hora)
Ex.: I go home at 20 to 8:00 (7:40)
I have lunch at 10 to 1:00 (12:50)
- Half → Meia (30 minutes)
Ex.: It’s 6 and a half (6:30)
8:30 → Eight and a half
- Quarter → 15 minutes
Ex.: It’s 7 and a quarter (7:15)
It’s a quarter past 4 (4:15)
- There are 2 ways to say 12:00:
- In the afternoon → Midday ☀️
- At night → Midnight 🌙
- Telling the period of the day:
- AM → Morning (Before midday)
- PM → Afternoon/Night (After midday)
Ex.: 8:00 am (morning)
8:00 pm (night)
